Happy Birthday, Declan!

Happy birthday to our Declan!  Our middle child may be known for being both funny and obstinate (usually at the same time), but he can also be so sensitive and sweet.  He frequently tells us how much he loves us, and he is becoming a very caring big brother to his sister Maggie. When May died he was so worried about us being sad, and would try to cheer me up by saying things like "You are the best mommy in the whole world. You are so pretty. Now are you happy?"  He and his big brother Liam are each other's best friends and playmates.  Declan's first word was book, and his love for reading has not changed.  If we can't find him for a bit, he is usually in the reading corner of his room surrounded by books.  He is such a curious little guy, always asking us to explain vocabulary words that we use that he isn't familiar with, and asking countless questions on everything from what animals eat and how things work to do you think Hulk could beat the robot all by himself?  Super heroes still rule our world, and he especially loves hearing us tell him stories and making up his own super tales.  He is as stubborn as ever, which should make our next adventure - potty training - very interesting!  We love you, Declan!

Pondering life one moment.
Then punching a robot the next.
Celebrating his birthday a little early with Babcia and Grandpa.
Opening presents on the big day!

Declan wanted an Incredibles-themed party for his birthday, and after some convincing he was okay sharing it with Maggie.  We had something like 20 kids plus parents (not to mention Uncle Doc and Aunt Jennifer) there, which made for a very fun chaos.  Unfortunately we did not take as many pictures as we would have liked, but we had such a great time celebrating our super guy with friends!
Incredibles cake!
The Omnidriod robot pinanta.
Ready to take it down.

A chance to fight the robot in real life = heaven! The birthday boy got the first crack.

Luckily my homemade pinata held up. All of the kids got a turn, and lots of kids made some serious dents, and then Liam finished it off.  I don't have that on video, of course.

Bloody nose mid-party, but we're okay.

We didn't get any still shots of Declan blowing out his candles because we were shooting the video. His face during the serenade was priceless, of course.

Maggie's first time having birthday cake!  After a brief stint of tears when I tried to take a chip away from her so she could eat her cake (see video), she dug in.

Way better than a chip.
Happy girl.
Baby Jack Jack!
Supers everywhere!

While the birthday boy napped, these two played on our trampoline. I love that Maggs acts like she totally belongs up there.

Time for presents!  Declan wasn't being too cooperative post-nap, so we have lots of pictures of Maggie.
Love our girl in a tutu playing with a drill.
We think Maggie will eventually like electric toothbrushes...

Butterfly wings!
Adorable with her gifts from the Martins.
A baby doll? Let me eat it!
