John and I were lucky enough to spend his spring break in Kauai. We handed off the boys to Nana and enjoyed a wonderfully luxurious week of hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, sightseeing, reading on the beach, long dinners, cocktails, and sleeping in! It was such a treat and while we missed the boys, it was such a relaxing getaway and we had so much fun!
We arrived in Kauai and headed to an oceanside dinner.
On our first morning we hiked the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail. It is a South Shore coastal hike to Maha'ulepa Beach, Kawailoa Bay, and Ha'ula Beach. We hiked along rocky cliffs and the views of the ocean were magnificent and the beaches were practically deserted.
Our next adventure was kayaking the Wailua River and hiking to Uluwehi (Secret) Falls. It was another beautiful hike and our kayaking guide was a comedian and so knowledgeable about Kauai. It was fun to learn some of the history and about the vegetation of the island. Luckily this waterfall was much, much warmer, so we could actually stay in the water for a little bit.
Post-kayaking we went off-roading. John was VERY happy, and I was very happy when it was over. :)
The next day we gave our legs and arms a rest and did a little touring in the car. We drove through Waimea Canyon, which is called the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," and did a little more dirt-road driving to get to the "end of the road" - Polihale State Park - the longest beach in Hawaii. Waimea Canyon offered more stunning views, and we got to see the Napali Coast from the west side of the island from Polihale Beach.
A few shots of Koa Kea, where we stayed in sunny Po'ipu.
A beautiful sunset from the beach in front or our hotel.
The view from our room. We did plenty of lounging in those chairs.
And drank plenty of Lava Flows from that bar.
We took a red-eye home, so we spent out last day back on the North Shore, exploring Hanalei Bay and Princeville.
